The Government is spending RM8.2 bil ( US$2.4 bil ) from 2006 to 2010 to improve the water supply, doubling the investment of the previous period. |

The ministry is targeting non-revenue water ( NRW ) be reduced to 30% by the end of the Ninth Malaysia Plan ( 9 MP ) by cutting wastage of treated water for consumers and losses incurred by the water operators. |

The current total market size of water and wastewater treatment equipment in Malaysia is estimated at US$836 million and is expected to grow by 11%. This growth will likely be a result of improved economic performance, continued growth in government spending and expansion of the manufacturing sector, especially export-oriented industries. |

The government plan to replace about 18.000km of old Asbestos pipes over the 10 years period under the Ninth and Tenth Plans. This works out to replacement of 1800km of old pipes each year. Futhermore SYABAS is planning to replace about 12.000km of water pipes over 30 years totalling RM11.7 billion. |

Syabas is estimated to spend some RM11.7 bil as part of its capital expenditure ( capex ) programme and another RM2.7 bil to reduce non-water revenue ( NWR ) losses to 15% by 2015 from the present 43%. |
