ASIA WATER 2008 MARKET NEWS : MALAYSIAN GOVT TO SPEND RM 21 ( US$ 6 ) BILLION INVESTMENTS IN WATER SECTOR BY 2010
The recent formation of the National Water Services Commission has given a boost to the water sector in Malaysia as it aim to realize improvements in the water quality, technical standards and services to consumers. In Malaysia , the overall consumption of equal 4.5 billion litres daily and is expected to rise to 5.0 billion litres per day in five years. The Budget 2007 has allocated RM251 million for water supply projects. By 2010, over RM21 billion is expected to be invested in the water sector to upgrade and centralize the water treatment plants, construction of dams, and replacement and extension of water pipelines and water-powered plants will be carried out.
